OUR STORY

VISION

VISION

To build a permanent endowment sufficient to meet the needs in perpetuity of The Children’s Home of Lubbock in its mission of healing wounded children and families.

We recognize that brokenness, as a result of sin, is part of the human experience. We also recognize that grace is a powerful force for healing. We envision a time when any child in the west Texas region who has experienced trauma will have a safe place for healing and overcoming the effects of their trauma at The Children’s Home of Lubbock. We envision The Home being a resource for helping families across west Texas become healthier, happier, and stronger. We envision a society that values, respects, and protects human life and the sanctity of the family unit. And we envision The Children’s Home Foundation as an integral part of bringing that to reality.

MISSION

MISSION

To secure and manage funds for the benefit of The Children’s Home of Lubbock and its ministry of “manifesting Christ through excellence in child care.”

Each year, from earnings on its assets, the Foundation helps make possible the programs and services rendered by The Children’s Home to the children and families it serves. This would not be possible without the friendship, prayers, and support of those who share the desire to give children a chance to grow and mature physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

BRIEF HISTORY

BRIEF HISTORY

Meeting the needs of hurting children in west Texas for over 20 years.

Because of its success and rich history of helping children, The Children’s Home of Lubbock is a vital organization in the west Texas area. Since 1954, The Home has provided shelter for some 7,000 children caught in the middle of life’s storms. In order to provide for the long-term needs and stability of that ministry, The Children’s Home Foundation was established in 1995 by outgoing Children’s Home president, Floyd Stumbo.

Upon retiring from almost 40 years of hands-on work at The Home, Floyd turned his full attention to growing the permanent endowment. Through generous gifts by thoughtful, compassionate friends of The Children’s Home, and by wise stewardship of those assets, the Foundation’s endowment quickly began to grow, providing an ever increasingly solid base of funding for The Children’s Home. Many gifts, including mineral rights, farm land or residential properties, increased in value over time, while outright cash gifts grew through strategic and prudent investment.

Since its beginning in 1995, the Foundation has significantly impacted the Home’s work with distributions of over $11 million to the ministry of caring for children in crisis. Abused and neglected children have been loved, clothed, nourished, and educated. They have felt the gentle, healing hand of God in their counsellors. They have seen the loving, compassionate face of Jesus in their house parents. And they have found a place to call home in the arms of adoptive families. All because of the generosity of friends like you!
